| Debut Trailer for R.U.S.E., Ubisoft's Deceptive New RTS |
  Just in time for GDC '09, Ubisoft in Montreal have announced a new real-time strategy IP named R.U.S.E., developed by Eugen Systems, creators of the positively received strategy title Act of War: Direct Action.
R.U.S.E. was demonstrated today for the first time in public at the Intel booth during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The game plays upon the theme of deception (thus the title), and will test players' ability to fool and outwit their opponents to victory.
Alexis Le Dressay, Eugen Systems Creative Director explains rather excitedly:
"Deception is present everywhere in our daily lives: in media, politics, even relationships, but we also realized how important it was during wartime.
R.U.S.E. is the game where each player uses their intelligence service to anticipate the moves of their opponent; this makes some information available about the enemy. Deception is also a matter of avoiding being spied on: lying, fainting, hiding, and faking…you’re the only one who decided when it’s time to reveal your real forces!!! That’s like poker!!!"
The game also employs a new proprietary in-game engine called IRISZOOM, which according to Ubisoft will allow for smooth, rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa.

| Attorney-General Michael Atkinson quits front bench |
  It's a name that for so long has been mumbled in the same sentence as "R18+ debate", and only a day after he once again secured his 20-year-old seat in the electorate of Croydon, South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has today announced he'll be resigning from the front bench with the expectation of leaving government in 2014.
“I believe there should be renewal,” Atkinson said. Atkinson said one of the factors in the decision had been wanting to watch his son Johnno play soccer for Woodville-Belgrade.
"He was supposed to play his first game last night at 7pm and like so many times in my time in Parliament I wasn't there," he said. " I am pretty disappointed about that. So I resolved that every time Johnno walks on the pitch this year his dad is going to be there even if it embarrasses the hell out of him."
Previously Atkinson was copped a string of criticism over internet censorship, a so-called “stashed cash” affair and high-profile defamation cases. However the biggest thing of course has been his quite public refusal of the R18+ rating being introduced for Australian Video Games.
In contrast to Atkinson's claims that Gamers4Croydon wouldn't secure even 1% of votes, G4C candidate and R18+ games campaigner Kat Nicholson, who ran against Mr Atkinson, secured 3.7 per cent of the votes yesterday. Changes to Australia's classification system require the approval of all state and federal attorneys-general. Their next meeting is in late April.
Earlier this year the Federal Government asked for public input on the issue and received around 60,000 submissions, with early indications suggesting that over 90% were in favor of the R18+ rating. Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Conner said the response was "staggering". A report is being prepared for the attorneys-general meeting.

| Company of Heroes: Eastern Front Mod |
  The Eastern Front is going to achieve what so many RTS players have been yearning for so many years: The integration of the Soviet Union into Company of Heroes.
First of all, do not worry. EF is not going to harm your normal CoH in any way, you can still play it normally. Also, it does not overwrite any of the exisiting factions. It will add the new factions, and you can still play with the old ones as well.
Our goal is the integration of the Red Army and the Ostheer into CoH. Complete with new models, skins, sounds, buildings, tech trees and maps.
We have already come a long, difficult way. Modding CoH is not easy. But we have an ambitious team of crack modders and we have taken all the hurdles. And now, two and a half years after our very first idea for this mod, we are close to making our initial release.
Take your time and look around, there's many interesting things to find.
